Hi there! I'm a 14-year-old non-binary person that uses they/them pronouns. I asked my mom if I could use her card to pay for my Etsy order, and I would pay her back. She asked me what I was ordering, and I told her I'm buying pronoun pins. She said word for word "Wait a minute, don't tell me you want to start using they/them pronouns," and she rolled her eyes. I hadn't come out to her yet because I didn't know how she would react. I looked at her in shock and my jaw dropped. I asked her what was wrong with they/them pronouns, and she said it's not natural and they/them is plural. I gave her examples of how it can be used singularly and she dismissed me. She said if I did come out, she would always call me her daughter and address me as she/her. I told her I was just getting a variety pack after that. It really hurt me knowing that she will never validate my gender.
